Intro

Since before Leia was born I've been telling Tamara that I wanted to keep a baby blog. Obviously, that didn't quite happen, but I'm trying to get started now. Beyond keeping in touch with friends and family, reading about what Leia was doing when she was 9 months old will probably be amusing in a few years.

Last week was a week of intestinal misery for the majority of our household. A stomach flu bug had been going through my family in Arlington, so we did our best to avoid them during that time. My Dad and his wife Vicki were in town the weekend of the 3rd, so we all met at my brother's house for dinner. We must have picked it up then, as Adora and I were sick on Sunday and Leia started showing symptoms later in the week. I can't make up my mind whether or not I'd prefer a 24-hour stomach flu or a three day achy fever flu. At least this experience was brief.

Leia has been sick on and off the for about a week now. We'll think she's doing alright and then she'll have a watery diaper to remind us that she's still not over it. Leia has done well so far while being sick. She's remained in good spirits, cruising around the room and laughing and generally keeping herself entertained. The only notable difference has been that she's not sleeping as well. Tamara and I think that may be due to Adora making noise in her room as they share a common wall.

Leia is working on building up her confidence when it comes to walking. We have this Winnie the Pooh Ride-On cart thing that she loves to push around. She'll cruise from the living room to the kitchen and back again with a huge grin on her face. It looks something like this:

She's figured out that she can walk around and push the cart backwards while holding on to the steering wheel if she gets stuck. I think that's pretty clever, but she's also my kid, so maybe most of them can connect those dots.

She's also becoming interested in climbing things. She's always bending her knee trying to get a leg up on something, and she's becoming more successful. Earlier this week she managed to completely climb on the Pooh cart and was standing up on it while facing backwards holding on to the plastic rail. I was impressed, but the cart is not heavy enough to keep from being knocked over while she's climbing all over it, so we pulled her off.

I'm going to wrap up this post, but in order to remind me of what I'd like to mention later, here's a list:
* Leia's silly straight-armed wave
* How Leia crawls over to the railing and loves to reach through and wave at people coming and going up and down the stairs
* How a sick baby results in a pacifier addiction
* Trials and tribulations of installing a baby gate without destroying your oak railposts
* My baby photographic techniques, primarily what gear I've been successful with
* Baby dancing
